June Newsletter: Elephants Don’t Sit On Gazebos

That title may be a very niche reference which will only be recognised by mostly people from the UK around my age group. When I was around 8 years old, I had a wonderful book called “Elephants Don’t Sit On Cars” by David Henry Wilson. It was one of my favourites and I lost count of how many times I read it. This weekend, thanks to a particularly blustery wind, it certainly looked like an elephant had sat on my gazebo at a craft market I was working. Luckily my stall neighbours lived very close by, had a spare one and were all round lovely, kind and helpful people. Other than the blustery start, it was quite a brilliant event, meeting wonderful people, a few of which have received this newsletter (if that’s you, thank you for coming)!.

Project Showcase: BBQ Time!

This summer I will be releasing my first line of outdoor cookware. There will be more items added to the range over the summer, but we will start with a selection of forged BBQ Skewers and a long handled fork. The skewers are forged from 6mm square bar, giving a delicate enough size to not split your lunch in two. The square profile stops food from slipping and spinning like it does on a round stick, allowing you to turn properly and get a good cook on all sides of your pieces, not just the heaviest. The two-pronged fork is a project I’m particularly happy with, being forged down from some heavier steel with some set-downs and curves which are really satisfying to forge.

These will be available very soon on my website (UK only) and my Etsy shop (worldwide). There will definitely be more added to the product range soon as I’ve really enjoyed designing these and love to make things that have a practical use.

Upcoming Events:

Little Newsham Forge: Gate Making Masterclass

21-22 June 2025

I will be attending the Little Newsham Forge Final Forge-in, up in Darlington this month. The event is a Gate Making Masterclass with Brian Russell, along with a forging competition I plan to get involved with. It will be my first time competing live, and the competition is with traditional wrought iron to add even more complexity. I’m equal parts excited and nervous, but I’m sure it will be a great event and a wonderful learning experience.

Wroxham Barns Makers Market

6 July 2025 10AM – 3PM

After having a wonderful time this month at the Wroxham Barns Makers Market, organised by Best of Norfolk, I am looking forward to having a stall on the first Sunday of July. I will be kitted out with all of my usual household ironwork and forged jewellery, along with exiting new outdoor cookware if you want to see me and my work in person.
